ITV has just been showing The Matrix trilogy of films. In case you haven't seen them, it's a sci-fi film where the world doesn't exist as we know it, we're all living in a computer generated world.
Anyway, for those who have seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
In the film Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) becomes "the one". In order to fulfill his destiny, he has to overcome his beliefs in what is real and what is not. Once his mind tells him that he can do anything, he literally can. He has to reprogram himself to believe that he can do super human feats.
The same happens to us. Throughout our lives, other people's influences tell us we can't do this, or we can't do that. You have to reprogram yourself to believe that you can do whatever it is you want to do. Positive affirmations can help you achieve this. Talk to yourself in the mirror every morning, and tell yourself you can do anything. Given time, your mind will start to believe it, and a whole new outlook will be before you.
Also, self help tapes and CDs can also help to reinforce these new beliefs. Play them to yourself before you go to sleep, so that it is the last thing your brain remembers. It's amazing how refreshed you can feel in the morning.
I never used to believe this until I bought Paul McKenna's "Change Your Life In Seven Days". The book came with a free CD which "hypnotises" you into believing you are more self confident. I listened to this CD every night before I went to sleep. In fact, I think I fell asleep every time before hearing it all! I thought that it wouldn't work. However, friends and colleagues noticed a change in my attitude. I became more assertive without even realising it.
Take time to train your mind, just as you would exercise your body in the gym. You'll be amazed at the results.
